Today, Tuesday March 7, the Catholic Church honors Santa Perpetua and Santa Felicidad.
Both were born in Carthage (Africa) in the year 203. Perpetua was a young 22-year-old mother belonging to a wealthy family, while Felicity was her slave.
According to the writings, the martyrdom of both was by order of the Emperor Severus when prosecuting the Christian religion. Just when the soldiers arrived, Perpetua held a religious ceremony and everyone present was arrested.
The judge issued his verdict decreeing that the men arrested were thrown to the wild beasts and the women to an area of cows. However, Felicity was pregnant and the law prevented that punishment from being carried out due to her pregnancy.
Ready to die martyred, she prayed to God and gave birth before being attacked by the cow.
The Catholic saints are the group of people recognized by the Church as saints or blessed on a specific date. The Roman Martyrology is the document that names and distributes in the calendar the almost 7,000 saints and blessed recognized by the Church.
