Shortly before Christmas: China's corona measures delay iPhone deliveries

Customers could now also feel the corona outbreak in a factory of the world's largest iPhone manufacturer Foxconn in China. Because of the following lockdown, the plant is only working on the back burner. Apple is already warning of delivery delays.

Apple announces possible disruptions in the delivery of the new iPhone 14 due to the recent corona restrictions in an assembly plant of the supplier Foxconn in China. "The plant is currently working at a significantly reduced capacity," said the US company on Sunday. "Customers will have to put up with longer waiting times to receive their new products." The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are affected. The delay in iPhone production hit Apple shortly before the start of the Christmas business.

Foxconn had noticed a significant increase in corona infections in its Zhengzhou factory, which is why the Taiwanese company sealed off the plant. At the end of October, distraught employees fled the area on foot to avoid a corona infection and also to escape the prevailing restrictions. Some of the workers complained about the miserable conditions in the factory, where hundreds of thousands of people work.

Last Wednesday, local authorities then imposed a lockdown on a zone around the Foxconn facility. This measure affects 600,000 people.

The Taiwanese company Foxconn, the world's largest manufacturer of iPhones, had previously said it was working to fully resume production at the Zhengzhou plant affected by the corona restrictions as soon as possible. At the same time, the company warned that it would have to revise its business expectations for the fourth quarter downwards as a result of the lockdowns. According to insiders, production could drop by up to 30 percent.
