Social Inequality: Who Does Inflation Really Affect? Twelve people report on how they deal with rising prices

High inflation has been making life difficult for many consumers in Germany for months. Even now, hardly any purchase goes by without a rude awakening at the checkout, and there is no end in sight to the rising food prices either.

A survey by the Ifo Institute at the beginning of the month showed that almost every retailer is planning to increase its prices. In the retail trade of food and beverages, the corresponding barometer for price expectations was 98.9 points in June. At least 78.6 points in the other retail sectors. Consumers therefore had to pay an average of 12.7 percent more for food in June than in the previous year.
