There is no surge in demand: Apple is producing fewer iPhone 14s than planned

Apple clearly wants to increase the production of its new smartphone, but the demand for the iPhone 14 apparently cannot keep up with the plans. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is stepping on the brakes.

According to an agency report, Apple has scrapped its plans to increase production of its new iPhone 14 smartphone by up to six million units in the second half of the year. The expected surge in demand failed to materialize, Bloomberg reported, citing insiders. The suppliers have been informed that it is not necessary to prepare for production increases. Instead, as in the previous year, Apple will produce 90 million mobile phones in the second half of the year, the agency further reported.

According to analysts, the report could weigh on the shares of Apple suppliers in particular and the technology sector in general, but also further cloud the mood for shares overall. The market launch for the iPhone 14 was September 16th.

Earlier this week, Apple announced that it would also have the iPhone 14 built in India. "The new iPhone 14 lineup introduces groundbreaking new technologies and important security features. We're excited to manufacture iPhone 14 in India," Apple said on Monday. Analysts from J.P. Morgan expect Apple to shift about 5 percent of iPhone 14 production to India, which is the world's second-biggest smartphone market after China, by the end of 2022.

Apple had already partially produced the successful predecessor model in India. According to analysts, a strategically good move: "Apple continued to grow strongly in the first half of 2022 thanks to solid demand for the iPhone 13 - which was the world's best-selling smartphone during this period - and the new iPhone SE," explained Le Xuan Chiew of catalysts The pricing policy also contributed to this success. The group has also successfully expanded its production in India, while many plants in China have reduced production due to corona lockdowns.
