Variant of the camper van series: Dethleffs Globetrail - the highlight is the bathroom

The caravan manufacturer Dethleffs is expanding its recently introduced Globetrail camper van series for the new model year - to ten layout variants. The 590C based on Ford Transit holds a special position.

Dethleffs is expanding its Globetrail camper van series, launched last year, with a 590C variant based on a Ford Transit. This variant differs from the almost identical models of the group brands Bürstner and LMC by an innovative bathroom solution.

Initially completely unspectacular, the Dethleffs Globetrail 590C, available from 59,000 euros, welcomes travelers with a proven floor plan. The seating group at the front consists of the swiveling front armchairs and the two-seater bench seat. In the middle of the six-meter-long camper van is the bathroom on the driver's side and the kitchen on the opposite. The transversely installed double bed is located in the rear.

A somewhat strange guide rail on the ceiling gives an idea of the unusual bathroom concept and the highlight of this vehicle. Dethleffs combines the foldable transverse bed with a swivel wall solution with a frosted glass look, a roller blind door and a shower tray that is unusually large for a camper van and is 87 centimeters wide and 47 centimeters deep. With a headroom of 1.94 metres, there is also plenty of room to climb.

The conversion from a compact bathroom to a comfort shower requires only a few simple steps: the front part of the bed on the driver's side is folded up, the swivel wall, which otherwise separates the double bed and the wet room, folds back against the side wall and the roller blind door becomes the new separation from bed and hallway. An interesting solution for campers who, despite the compact dimensions, do not want to do without a shower.

The base of the Globetrail 590C is combined with the 96 kW/130 hp four-cylinder diesel and front-wheel drive and has assistance systems such as crosswind support, brake assistant and traction control as standard on board. Alternatively, there is a 125 kW/170 PS TDCi engine to choose from. Both engine variants are available with manual or automatic transmission.

Dethleffs is not only adding the 590C to its first own camper van series, which certainly plays a special role in this compact series. The manufacturer from Isny in Allgäu, which has just celebrated its 90th anniversary, is expanding the model series that started with two Fiat layouts a year ago by seven new variants at the Globetrail. Depending on availability, the now ten Globetrail models can either be based on the Fiat Ducato or its almost identical Stellantis siblings, the Citroën Jumper or Peugeot Boxer.

With the new floor plans, the most compact version, the 540 R, is now also available, which despite an overall length of only 5.40 meters offers a narrow spacious bathroom that uses the space up to the kitchen opposite for a spacious shower. The only downside: when taking a shower, access from the front area to the bed is blocked. In addition to the short Globetrail, there are five 6 meter long versions, one of which has lengthways single beds, and three layouts with the longest wheelbase and each with a total length of 6.40 meters.

While Dethleffs does not want to announce the exact price for the 540 until the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf (August 26 to September 4), the new 600 models are priced in from 55,000 euros and the 640 with the basic equipment is available from 58,400 euros.

The Allgäu-based company has also followed up with the semi-integrated models of the "Just Go" series, which were only introduced in May, and have doubled the model range of the entry-level model to six layout variants. New additions as the most compact version are the 6.69 meter long T6615 with single beds from 58,200 euros, the seven meter long T6905 with a side lengthways double bed in the rear from 60,200 euros and the 7.36 meter long T7055 EBL with single beds and two lengthways benches as lounge chairs. Seating group from 62,600 euros.
