Russia and Ukraine today exchanged 101 prisoners of war from each side, the Russian Defense Ministry and the Ukrainian Presidential Office respectively reported.

"As a result of a negotiation process, 101 Russian servicemen who were in danger of dying in captivity were returned from Kiev-controlled territory," the Russian military department said in a statement.

The note adds that those released will receive treatment, rehabilitation and psychological assistance in medical institutions of the Ministry of Defense.

On the other hand, the head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, pointed out in his Telegram account that "101 soldiers and one civilian return home today."

Yermal specified that among the prisoners there are "94 defenders of Mariupol, including 63 Azovstal fighters" and they finally had to surrender in May 2022.

"Their families have been waiting for them for a long time," he wrote, saying that "many heroes have injuries of varying severity."
