The explosion in Hemer, Sauerland, leaves nothing behind but the rubble of an apartment building. After one woman can only be recovered dead, another victim succumbs to his injuries. The cause of the explosion is still unclear.
After the house explosion in Hemer in Sauerland there is a second fatality. A 32-year-old resident died of her injuries in the hospital on Wednesday, said a spokesman for the Hagen public prosecutor. The explosion last Friday evening had completely destroyed the house. A 57-year-old woman could only be recovered dead from the rubble.
It is still unclear what caused the explosion. The public prosecutor's office said it was still assumed that there was a gas explosion. But it will continue to be determined in all directions. However, there are currently no indications of third-party negligence. The spokesman for the public prosecutor's office also said that no connection could be made between filling up the gas tank and the explosion. According to current knowledge, the last refueling was months ago. The investigation at the scene of the accident has therefore been completed.
In the past few days, officials had removed the rubble layer by layer and looked for clues. According to investigators, it may be weeks before these are evaluated and an expert report on the cause of the explosion is available.
