Lake Vänern in Sweden attracts many anglers and water sports enthusiasts every year. For two men from Germany, however, their kayak trip ends fatally. According to the Swedish media, they were well equipped - even with life jackets.

Two Germans died while kayaking in Sweden. A police spokesman said it was two young men. They were found far out on Lake Vänern, the largest lake in Sweden and the entire EU. Her exact age and her place of origin in the Federal Republic cannot yet be given.

The two men were found on Wednesday afternoon after an emergency call from a boat in the water between the islands of Djurö and Lurö and brought ashore. In the evening the police announced that they had died. She spoke of two adults who were kayaking and had some form of distress at sea.

It has been suggested in Swedish media that the pair may have been caught off guard by bad weather - conditions were calm on Wednesday but significantly worse on Tuesday.

The "Aftonbladet" reports that the Germans were well equipped. Apparently the men were on a longer tour, had tents, provisions, storm cookers and fishing rods with them. They are said to have worn life jackets. One of the victims had identification papers with them, which helped with identification, writes the Swedish newspaper.
