A driver died in an accident as a result of a thunderstorm on the A6 towards Nuremberg. According to the police, the 58-year-old's car skidded on Wednesday evening shortly after 8 p.m. in the Kraichgau just behind Bad Rappenau on a rain-soaked road due to aquaplaning. According to the information, he crashed into the median barrier and stopped in the left lane.
When the driver from Eningen wanted to set up a warning triangle with a safety vest, he was hit by a following car. The following 20-year-old driver from Schwäbisch Hall saw the man, who had just bent down to set up his warning triangle, too late, police report. In addition to the aquaplaning, visibility was severely restricted as a result of the thunderstorm.
The second car had also started to slide due to aquaplaning. As a result, the driver was no longer able to avoid it and hit the 58-year-old head-on.
The emergency services of an Austrian ambulance that happened to follow immediately began to revive the 58-year-old, but were unable to save him. He succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident. The A6 remained completely blocked in the direction of Nuremberg until shortly after midnight. According to the police, an accident expert was called in.
