Artificial paws for Bim: Animal rights activists save war-injured dog

Severed paws and injuries to ears and tail: the terrier mix Bim is severely mutilated in Ukraine. An animal rights activist takes the young dog into his care. Just a few weeks later, Bim dares to take his first steps on new silicone paws.

In the Ukraine, helpers have found a badly abused dog that, thanks to prosthetic legs, is now taking its first steps on its replacement paws on the Lower Rhine. The prominent animal rights activist Ralf Seeger - known from TV from the Vox documentary series "Hard Dogs" - took the young terrier mix into his care. All four paws, part of the tail and pieces of the ears were severed. For a few weeks, the dog named Bim has been cared for in Seeger's association "Helden für Tier - Tierhilfe International". "He suffered serious mutilations. A friend, an orthotist, made four prosthetic legs for him."

X-rays were taken a few days ago. Fortunately, the dog was spared another operation, as was shown. A silicone prosthesis had to be adjusted afterwards, the dog was in pain. Walking with the artificial paws also takes a lot of getting used to for the little one. "But I'm sure we can get him back on his feet." Seeger founded his non-profit organization 13 years ago. He has been involved in animal welfare for 40 years, said the 59-year-old.

According to him, the volunteers in Ukraine could not have cared for the animal. Bim was brought to western Ukraine, where the animal rights activist from the Lower Rhine was filming for VOX. It is unbelievable what suffering many dogs experience in war zones, said Seeger. His association treated animals with gunshot wounds in the back or shrapnel all over their bodies.
