An AfD politician has to pay a fine of almost 11,000 euros. According to the court ruling, he initially racially insulted two women in a café in 2021. As the argument escalated, he attacked one of the women, including biting her.
A Berlin AfD politician has been fined by the Tiergarten district court for assault and insult. The court assumed that the 56-year-old had first racially insulted two women in a café and later hit and bitten one of them. The accused, a member of the Berlin-Mitte district council, had previously confessed to the assault.
As the court explained, the accused first interfered in a conversation between the two women in August 2021. Then he racially insulted her. When they left the café, he insulted her again on the street and finally attacked her. As the court announced, the bite wound was visible for about a year. Both women are still massively impaired in their sense of security.
The local politician Kai Borrmann had admitted that in 2021 he had attacked the moderator Steph Karl, who is known in the German rap scene, and her girlfriend. He also used the N-word. The N-word describes a racist term for black people that was used in the past.
The statements used by the man are discriminatory, said the presiding judge. She belittles others and violates their dignity. The accused also recognized that he had offended the women. In the case of bodily harm, he could not invoke self-defense because he attacked himself. That's why he had no right to defend himself against the women's resistance.
The court imposed a penalty of 180 daily rates of 60 euros each, i.e. a total of 10,800 euros. The public prosecutor's office and the joint prosecutor had asked for a suspended sentence, while the defense demanded acquittal of the assault. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
