Jon Kay will be the new BBC Breakfast regular presenter from Monday to Wednesday. Victoria Derbyshire will take over as Newsnight's lead presenter, the BBC announced.

Kay stated that he is "over the moon" about his new position, which takes effect immediately.

Derbyshire joined Kirsty wark in September and said that she was "delighted".

BBC Breakfast and Newsnight, the BBC's most popular news and current affairs television programs, are broadcast by BBC Television Corporation.

Kay stated, "I am thrilled to be the new BBC Breakfast presenter and I look forward to sharing the latest news with our amazing viewers along with my friend Sally [Nugent]"

Since Dan Walker's departure for Channel 5, he has been filling in on the show.

"Sitting on the red sofa is an honor while covering stories and issues that are important to our audience, both at home and abroad."

Victoria Derbyshire will take over the role of Emma Barnett and Emily Maitlis, who both left the program earlier in the year.

Derbyshire stated that she is "so happy to be joining Kirsty Wark's legend and the talented Newsnight staff under new and ambitious leadership."

She said, "This is an extraordinary opportunity to assume one of the most prestigious jobs in British journalism and help shape its future."

"I cannot wait to tell more stories about people's lives and hold those who represent them accountable."

Broadcaster and journalist Derbyshire was previously the host of her BBC current affairs program, which was simultaneously broadcast on radio and TV from 2015 to 2020.

She described her reaction to revealing that she was wearing a wig after months of breast cancer treatment in 2017.

She was previously a host on Newsnight and Panorama and has also been a guest on ITV's The Real Full Monty: Ladies Night, an entertainment documentary that raises awareness about breast cancer.

Kay is a presenter and newsreader. She has reported from Portugal on the investigation into Madeleine McCann's disappearance in 2014, and from Cape Town on Shrien Dewani's trial.

Jonathan Munro, interim Director of BBC News, stated that it was "fantastic to appoint two talented presenters to start the day on our most important news programs."

Stewart Maclean, Newsnight editor, said that Derbyshire and Wark are a "feisty partnership at the heart" of the presenter lineup.
