Fled on e-scooters: robbers attack a luxury jeweler in Hamburg

In the midst of the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle, two armed men stormed a luxury watch shop on Hamburg's Gänsemarkt. They smash the display cases with a hammer and make off with their loot. After a major alarm, the police had to call off the search for them without success.

In a robbery on a jewelry store in downtown Hamburg, the perpetrators stole high-quality jewelry on Tuesday evening. According to initial findings, two suspects are on the run, said a police spokesman. The spokesman was initially unable to say whether other people were involved in the robbery in the shop on Neue ABC-Straße. Nobody was injured.

The perpetrators struck in the hustle and bustle of the evening business four days before Christmas Eve - near the Gänsemarkt. The spokesman did not provide any information on the exact value of the loot. It is high quality jewelry. According to the police, the perpetrators were said to have carried firearms during the robbery. A smashed display case and a hammer were seen at the scene.

A sniffer dog used by the officials picked up a trail as far as the Rödingsmarkt subway station, where she got lost, the spokesman added late in the evening. Another track led to the Stadthausbrücke S-Bahn station, but got lost there. Two e-scooters and black gloves, which the perpetrators were probably wearing, were secured, the police said. In addition, video recordings were requested from a stop near the jewelry store. Police operations were canceled late in the evening.

As the "Hamburger Abendblatt" reports, the perpetrators are said to be primarily targeting high-quality watches. The store that was robbed was a well-known watch dealer who also had a branch on Sylt. The paper puts the value of the loot at more than two million euros.
