Helicopter special operation: suspected Kalletal ax murderer caught

He is said to have brutally killed his rival and then raped his ex-girlfriend in the next room. After the fact, the alleged "axe murderer" is on the run for weeks. Now the police are arresting a suspect.

After almost five weeks on the run, the alleged ax murderer from Kalletal (Lippe district) has been arrested. The 36-year-old was arrested in Brieskow-Finkenheerd, Brandenburg, near the Polish border, police and prosecutors said.

He is said to have killed a 39-year-old in bed with an ax on June 18. Then he is said to have raped his ex-girlfriend, who had an affair with the victim, in another room. The two were therefore in bed when the 36-year-old killed the 39-year-old. After the fact, according to investigators, he forced her and her two young children into a car and sped away. On the way he was stopped by the police and fled. He left his wife and children behind. Citizens were warned not to approach the man independently.

Several helicopters were used to find the man, as well as a SEK team. Special forces from the Brandenburg police arrested him late Thursday evening, it said. There was also a close exchange with Polish law enforcement agencies. In the suspected case that the man flees to the neighboring country, they would have been ready to access the police and public prosecutor's office.

In the course of Friday he should be brought to Detmold and presented to a magistrate there. They will announce the existing arrest warrant for murder, the message said.
