Investigations continue: Suspect released in Castrop-Rauxel

At the beginning of January, two brothers who are said to have prepared a poison attack are arrested in Castrop-Rauxel. The older man is now free again due to a lack of urgent suspicion. The public prosecutor is appealing the decision.

After two arrests on suspicion of terrorism in Castrop-Rauxel, one of the two men is free again. According to the Düsseldorf public prosecutor's office, the Dortmund district court currently sees no urgent suspicion against either of the two Iranians and has lifted the arrest warrant against the 32-year-old. "The investigations are of course continuing," said senior public prosecutor Holger Heming.

The spokesman did not want to comment on possible legal remedies after the decision of the district court for the time being. The Attorney General accuses the two of conspiring to commit a crime. The "Spiegel" had previously reported on the release from prison. Investigators accuse the brothers, aged 32 and 25, who were arrested on the night of January 8, of trying to get cyanide and ricin to kill people.

The toxins were not found, but according to North Rhine-Westphalia's Interior Minister Herbert Reul, "small amounts of chemical and biological substances" were found. The trial date for the younger brother has not yet been completed. The Attorney General's Office has filed a complaint against the release of the 32-year-old terrorist suspect von Castrop-Rauxel from custody. Now the District Court of Dortmund has to deal with the case again.
