Last days of Mallorca detention ?: Cone brothers get surprising support

Everything could go very quickly for the bowlers from Münster who are in Spanish custody. According to her lawyer, the public prosecutor's office is now pleading for her release. The twist may have been a recently released photo that exonerates her in the investigation surrounding a fire.

In the case of the eight Germans who have been in custody on Mallorca for almost two months on charges of arson, things could soon start moving, according to the lawyer. The public prosecutor's office is now also pleading for the release of their clients on bail, lawyer Maria Barbancho Saborit told regional media such as "Mallorca Zeitung" and "Mallorca Magazin".

In view of the new development, they now want to try to change the investigating judge's mind and obtain a release. It is possible that the judge will make a decision on Thursday or Friday. If this is positive, the cone brothers would be released immediately under certain conditions, the lawyer explained.

As reported by the Mallorcan regional media, the investigating judge must first obtain a statement from the co-plaintiff in order to come to his decision. According to the "Mallorca Zeitung", at least one of the lawyers for the injured party agrees with the release, but demands bail of 12,000 euros for each of the accused. It is the same amount deposited by four cone brothers who have already been released.

The members of a Münster bowling club are accused of starting a fire near the Ballermann on Playa de Palma on May 20, shortly after their arrival on the island. They are said to have thrown burning butts and alcohol from the balcony of their hotel room onto the thatched roof of the terrace of a restaurant below. The roof caught fire and two pubs, an apartment and parts of the restaurant were damaged. Two people suffered minor injuries.

However, the young people vehemently deny setting the fire. A Whatsapp photo recently brought into the case may have helped prosecutors change their minds. This shows a man who was on a hotel balcony in the immediate vicinity of the thatched roof shortly before the fire broke out.

The group of cone brothers belonged to a total of 13 vacationers. One of them was released without conditions the day after the fire. He had been able to prove that he was in the shower when the fire broke out. Four suspects were allowed to leave the prison in Palma after around two and a half weeks after paying bail of 12,000 euros each.
