More than three hours a day: streaming beats linear TV in the US for the first time

The end of linear television has been announced for a long time, in the USA it will probably become reality in 2023. At least according to a survey, streaming offers will overtake classic TV in use for the first time. This is also due to an app that is very popular with young people.

This year, the use of streaming and video platforms such as Netflix, Youtube and Tiktok in the USA is expected to surpass traditional television for the first time. The market observers from Insider Intelligence are assuming a share of almost 48 percent for linear TV programs and a good 52 percent for digital offers for 2023.

The average daily use of streaming services is therefore already three hours and eleven minutes. The experts assume that the relationship will continue to shift to the detriment of traditional television, since young audiences in particular prefer digital offerings.

According to Insider Intelligence, Netflix and YouTube are the most popular streaming platforms. Adults in the US spend an average of 33 minutes a day on each of these platforms. However, the Tiktok app, which is particularly popular with younger users, recorded the strongest increase.
