Nominees for the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards are led by Justin Bieber

This year, Justin Bieber is the top nominee at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. Followed closely by Megan Thee Stallion and Billie Eilish as well as Doja Cat, Drake (Doja Cat), Drake, Giveon, Lil Nas X, and Olivia Rodrigo, who are first-time nominees.

Bieber received seven nominations, including video and best direction for "POPSTAR," artist and the year, best cinematography and best pop song, as well as best editing and collaboration for "Peaches."

Megan Thee Stallion follows with six nominations. These were mostly for her hit song "WAP". This song earned Megan Thee Stallion nods for video and artist of the Year, best collaboration, best hip-hop song, and video of the week. Her work on Lil Baby’s "On Me (The Remix)" earned her a second nomination in the best hip hop song category.

Five nominations each for Eilish and BTS, Drake, Doja Cats, Drake, Giveon and Rodrigo. Megan Thee Stallion and Bieber will be competing with Ariana Grande and Doja Cat for artist of the Year.

The video of year category will be filled by "WAP", Cardi B with Megan Thee Stallion; DJ Khaled's "POPSTAR" featuring Drake and Bieber; Doja Cat's "Kiss Me More" featuring SZA; Ed Sheeran’s "Bad Habits", Lil Nas X’s "MONTERO [Call Me by Your Name]; and The Weeknd’s "Save Your Tears."

"WAP" is up for song of year alongside "Mood", 24kGoldn with iann dior; Bruno Mars' "Leave The Door Open", Anderson.Paak, and Silk Sonic; and "Dynamite", by BTS; Dua lipa's “Levitating” and Rodrigo’s "drivers licence."

New York City will host the 2021 VMAs, which will air from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn starting Sept. 12. The show will be simulcast on CMT, Comedy Central and Logo, Nickelodeons, Paramount Network, Pop TV Land and The CW Network.

24kGoldn and Giveon are the best nominees for new artists. The best rock song nominees include Evanescence's “Use My Voice,” Foo Fighters' “Shame Shame,” John Mayer's ‘Last Train Home”, The Killers' “My Own Soul's Warning,” Kings Of Leon's „The Bandit” and Lenny Kravitz's (“Raise Vibration”).
