Search in the Main-Danube Canal: Corpse detection dogs do not find missing pregnant women

There is still no trace of the 39-year-old, who has disappeared since December 9th. Body detection dogs search the Main-Danube Canal near Nuremberg, but without success. Police believe the pregnant woman was the victim of a violent crime.

When searching for a missing pregnant woman from Nuremberg, the police were unable to find any clues in their search in the Main-Danube Canal, even with cadaver dogs. The animals are specially trained to be able to perceive the smell of decomposition from under water on the water surface, said a police spokeswoman. A total of five dogs were used, who took turns. In addition, divers continued to search for the missing person. According to "Donaukurier", drones were also used to search areas near the shore.

There will initially be no further search operations using dogs. However, the search in the channel should continue on Monday with divers. It was said in advance that if no other indications could be found, the authorities now want to comb the bank of the canal more intensively. The section of the canal between the Eibach lock and the Nuremberg lock was searched, as the “Donaukurier” reported.

The 39-year-old was reported missing by her partner on December 9th. According to "inFranken.de" she wanted to pick up her foster child from daycare and has since disappeared without a trace. She lives in the area near the Main-Danube Canal in the Katzwang district of Nuremberg. The police suspect a violent crime. So far there are no indications of a possible suspect or other concrete indications of the course of a possible crime. A search in the channel is an obvious measure in such cases.

Since Tuesday, three divers and a boat crew had unsuccessfully searched the area in the channel with sonar equipment. On Wednesday, a so-called scooter was also used - a drive that pulls the diver through the water and at the same time takes pictures, now dogs were also brought in. The search had been complicated by poor underwater visibility of just half a meter.
