Several people are still in the clinic: new details after the knife attack in the region are known

The investigators in the case of the knife attack on a regional train in Schleswig-Holstein have announced details of the identities of the injured for the first time. Three people are still in hospitals - for two young people, however, there is the all-clear.

After the knife attack of a 33-year-old on a train in Schleswig-Holstein, three injured people are still being treated in hospitals. It was about two women aged 27 and 54 and a 62-year-old man, said the police in Itzehoe. They are "conscious and currently stable". Two other injured have since been released from the hospital. They are two young men aged 22.

At the same time, the investigators published details of the identities of those injured in the attack, in which a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old were killed. Like the two dead, most of the injured come from Schleswig-Holstein, only the 27-year-old who is still being treated in the hospital comes from Hamburg.

A homeless 33-year-old who had been released from a detention center in Hamburg a few days earlier had stabbed passengers in a regional express between Kiel and Hamburg. He was overwhelmed by passengers and arrested by police after the train stopped at Brokstedt station. The man is now in custody on suspicion of double murder and multiple attempted manslaughter. The accused is a stateless Palestinian who has been living in Germany since 2014 and has repeatedly committed criminal offenses. He first lived in North Rhine-Westphalia, later in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg.

In the week before the crime, he was released from a pre-trial detention of about one year in Hamburg. The background was a not yet final conviction for dangerous bodily harm. According to the investigators, the motives of the suspect are still completely open. There are therefore no indications of any terrorist background, nor are there any indications of a possibly planned act.
