Strong waves on the Baltic Sea: woman saves young people - and then dies

When there are strong waves, two young people are in danger of life in the Baltic Sea off Rügen. A 57-year-old manages to save the two, but then she gets into trouble herself. Beachgoers get them out of the water. But it's too late.

After rescuing two young people from the Baltic Sea, a woman on the island of Rügen herself got into trouble and later died in the hospital. According to the police, the 57-year-old went into the water on Friday evening in the Baltic Sea resort of Thiessow in Mönchgut to help two young people who were in mortal danger due to the strong waves. Together with another helper, she managed to save the two.

The 57-year-old then got into trouble herself and was no longer able to reach the shore on her own. Two beach visitors rushed to her aid and rescued the now lifeless woman from the water. They immediately began resuscitation, which the rescue workers who arrived continued. They took the woman to a hospital, where she died shortly thereafter.

Police say they are investigating the exact cause of death.
