The weather week in a quick check: Thunderstorms end the great heat

In some places it was more than 40 degrees last week - but the extreme heat is over for now. Although it remains warm, there is also cooling in some parts of the country, sometimes accompanied by thunder and lightning.

The new week also brings a number of moving moments. At the beginning there is another heat peak with values over 35 degrees. Afterwards, the low "Daniela" including some strong thunderstorms will cool down significantly, which will also end the heat wave in the south after ten days with over 30 degrees. Only in the second half of the week does midsummer start again.

However, the heat at the end of July should be much more tame than it was recently. Not 40 degrees, not 35 degrees, but "only" maximum values of up to 32 or 33 degrees - at least that's what the current forecasts of the weather models show. So normal summer weather.

The situation on the rain front remains problematic. Even if there are sometimes thundery downpours regionally, this reduces the risk of forest fires to the maximum and gives the meadows and fields some wet supplies. Deep down, however, the situation in the soil remains tense.

Meanwhile, the weather computers indicate a very rainy last week in July, especially in the Alps. Depending on the weather model, more than 100 liters per square meter are possible within the next few days. That would also be good for the whole of Germany - for the time being, however, we have to be satisfied with what is coming. Here the details.

The start of the week brings us the last heat peak for the time being with widespread 30 to 37 degrees. It gets hottest from the Rhine-Main area through Franconia and Saxony to Berlin and Brandenburg. Only on the North Sea is it significantly cooler at 22 to 27 degrees. But in the course of the day, the low "Daniela" with a strong wind and the cold front is increasingly determining our weather.

Monday starts out mostly sunny, only in the north-west and west are the clouds rapidly becoming more numerous and bringing the first rain showers with them. In the afternoon, heavy rain showers and thunderstorms are to be expected in the western half and later also in the Alps. In addition to heavy rain, there may also be squalls and hail in places. Even the risk of individual tornadoes is slightly increased.

This also applies in the evening and on Tuesday night, when the risk of severe weather in the east and south also increases. From heavy rain to severe gusts of wind, everything is there before it cools down noticeably behind thunder and lightning.

A mix of sun and clouds with a few showers awaits us. It is the friendliest and mostly dry in a strip from Baden-Württemberg to Saxony. South of the Danube there will be heavy and thundery rain at first, which will only subside in the afternoon. With brisk, gusty northwest winds on the North Sea, there are only 18 to 23 degrees in the north and 24 to 28 degrees in the south - ventilation is the first thing to do after the heat.

In the middle of the week it will be partly sunny and mostly dry. There is only a higher risk of showers and thunderstorms near the Alps. In addition, the temperatures on Wednesday will be 18 to 28 degrees and on Thursday 18 to 32 degrees - the hotspot will again be the southwest.

After the sometimes very intense heat phase in the previous week, July is expected to end on a fairly forgiving basis. On Friday it will be increasingly thundery from the Alps to the low mountain ranges. Otherwise it is often sunny. Highs between 20 degrees on the North Sea and up to 30 degrees on the Oder. A few thunderstorms are still possible in the south-east over the weekend, while the rest of the country will be nicer and sunnier. In addition, the temperatures reach between 22 and 32 degrees; according to the current status, Sunday is likely to be the warmer day.
