Threatened with violence: Child attacks Sparkasse in Hanover

A child, presumably still of primary school age, enters a bank, demands money and threatens the employees. Is this a bizarre children's prank or are adult instigators behind the incident? The investigators in Hanover at least take the failed robbery extremely seriously.

The police in Garbsen in the Hanover region are currently investigating a particularly unusual case. A child, about ten years old, enters a Sparkasse branch in the middle of the city on Wednesday morning. A large reindeer with a red nose and large antlers is emblazoned on his woolen hat, he wears a blue surgical mask on his face and is holding a black hard-shell suitcase. Up to this point, nothing unusual can be found in the small bank branch. Until the employees call 911.

Because shortly after entering the bank, the child, who was just 1.20 meters tall, tried to rob the bank, as reported by NDR. The police reconstructed the attempted act like this: The child, whether it is a girl or a boy, asks the employees to hand over money to him. In order to emphasize his demands, he threatens violence. When the employees of the savings bank don't hand out any cash, the child doesn't carry out his threat. Instead, it turns and runs away.

Is the incident a bizarre children's prank or is there more to it? In any case, the police take the attempted robbery seriously and are investigating serious extortion. If the child is actually not yet 14 years old, it cannot be prosecuted. Rather, the police are also concerned with clarifying whether there was an adult instigator for the act, the broadcaster continues.

At first, however, the investigators didn't have much more than the descriptions given by the employees of the Sparkasse - and the black hard case. Because this remained after the failed robbery in the bank. However, this trail quickly turned out to be of little help: Specialists opened the suitcase and did not discover any dangerous objects, according to the NDR.

Even almost 24 hours after the incident, the child has not yet been identified, according to the Garbsen police in an interview with ntv.de. It is being determined in the immediate vicinity and in all directions, it is said. At the time of the crime, she was wearing a black jacket with an orange lining, black trousers, white socks and gloves with reflective strips. Anyone who saw the child or witnessed the incident is asked to contact the investigators. A key piece of information from the public may be able to solve the mystery of the Garbsen incident.
