In the trial of the murder of US rapper Nipsey Hussle, the defendant has been sentenced to 60 years in prison. This sentence was imposed on Eric Holder on Wednesday in Los Angeles by the responsible judge after a jury found the 32-year-old guilty in July last year. The jury found it established that Holder deliberately shot his victim on the street in 2019.
The sentence now imposed consists of several individual sentences: 25 years in prison for murder and 25 more years because the crime was committed with firearms. In addition, according to the judge's verdict, there are ten more years in prison because two men near Hussle suffered gunshot wounds in the act.
At trial, the defendant did not deny the crime, but his lawyers argued that he acted with emotion and not with intent. The prosecution described the course of events differently: According to this, the perpetrator returned ten minutes after an argument with the rapper with weapons in both hands and then shot Hussle. The 33-year-old rapper was hit by at least ten bullets and collapsed outside the fashion store he opened in his south Los Angeles neighborhood.
Hussle, real name Ermias Asghedom, came from a gang-ridden area of Los Angeles. The rapper started his music career in the underground hip-hop scene. For a long time he was not very successful commercially, but his first studio-produced album "Victory Lap" brought Hussle a nomination for a Grammy as best rap album.
