When do the protective measures fall?: Medical officers warn against rash action

According to virologist Christian Drosten, the corona pandemic is slowly becoming endemic. In response, some politicians are already calling for an end to the protective measures. The Federal Association of German Medical Officers clearly contradicts this.

Germany's medical officers warn against lifting the corona containment measures in the short term. “I am critical of the premature cessation of all protective measures at this point in time,” said the chairman of the Federal Association of Doctors in the Public Health Service, Johannes Nießen, of the “Welt”.

"We currently have an increased number of cases and a burden on hospitals due to staff shortages and other infectious diseases." Nießen also referred to the number of corona deaths from several hundred to over a thousand per week in the past few weeks. The currently applicable corona containment measures are based on the current version of the Infection Protection Act, which applies until April 7th.

The President of the German Hospital Society, Gerald Gaß, told the “Welt” that it was “not conveyable to the population” if the measures continued to apply until that date. "If science now says almost unanimously that the pandemic is over, the measures can no longer be maintained as mandatory measures," he said.

The virologist Christian Drosten had previously told the “Tagesspiegel” that in his opinion the corona pandemic was going into an endemic situation. The intensive care physician Christian Karagiannidis made a similar statement in the editorial network Germany. As a result, politicians from the FDP and the Union, including Federal Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann, called for an end to the protective measures prescribed by the state.
