Who is the man in room 1202?: Cone brothers' lawyers direct suspicion to the balcony neighbor

After a bar fire in May not far from Ballermann, eight young bowlers from Münster are still in Spanish custody. Now there is an explosive twist: Her lawyers want to punch her out with a photo and an error analysis of the time recording on the doors of the bowling brothers' hotel.

The judicial thriller for the eight cone brothers imprisoned in Mallorca continues. Most recently, an expert opinion from the Spanish police put them in distress about the devastating fire in a bar on Mallorca in May. Because it underpinned the theory of a discarded cigarette as the cause of the fire. According to the allegations of the Spanish judiciary, one of the still imprisoned cone brothers is said to have caused the fire on May 20th with just one.

Now the lawyers for the cone brothers have submitted a photo to the Spanish court showing a previously unknown man on a neighboring balcony, with a cigarette in his hand. This emerges from a report by RTL. The broadcaster has the relevant court file. With the photo, the lawyers for the hobby bowlers want to prove that a man from a room next to the bowlers could have caused the fire. The "Mallorca Zeitung" has the photo from a WhatsApp group.

According to lawyer Unai Mieza Arana, the picture shows two of the bowlers sitting on a balcony of the "Whala! Beach" hotel in El Arenal, as reported by RTL. On a neighboring balcony, a man can be seen in the background who had previously played no role in the case. He is leaning over the railing, apparently holding a cigarette. The photo is time-stamped "Friday, May 20, 2022, 2:49 p.m.". The fire broke out a short time later.

The bowling brothers' attorney, while not alleging that this man threw away the cigarette and started the bar fire, does point out that room 1202 is "much closer to the corner" than the accused bowlers'. The picture shows a man "holding the cigarette butt over the railing with his arm, right on the terrace of 'Why not Mallorca', which caught fire a few moments later".

Another explosive aspect of the new twist: Previously, citing the time recording on the hotel room doors, it had been said that nobody was in room 1202 at the time relevant to the fire. The cone brothers' lawyer writes to the court that this is wrong. It indicates a time difference of one hour between data collected by the hotel and the actual time. According to the records of Whala!Beach, at 3:47 p.m. and 20 seconds someone opened room number 1202 with the room card. In reality, however, it was only 2:47 p.m., according to Unai Mieza Arana. That also fits the picture from 2:49 p.m., which shows the man smoking on the balcony.

The suspected cone brothers are accused by the Spanish judiciary of having caused the fire near the Ballermann on May 20th. In addition to the bar, the fire also damaged neighboring buildings, and two people were injured. 13 young men were arrested. Four of them were released on bail, and one bowler was able to prove his innocence. The remaining eight men are still in custody.
