The Syrian regime proclaims the conquest of the last great city in the hands of ISIS

The Syrian authorities have reported today the total release of the city of Deir Ezzor, in the northeastern part of the country, of the yoke of the Islamic State terrorist group (ISIS). Official television, citing military sources, announced that the armed forces managed to "liberate" Deir Ezzor after killing a large number of extremists and destroying their weapons and equipment. The chain pointed out that the soldiers are cleaning up mines and explosive devices left behind by the jihadists. Last night, the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights announced that the army had completely retaken this population, the former stronghold of the radicals in the country along with the locality of Raqa. In this offensive, launched last September, the government forces have been commanded by the general, Hasan Hassan, alias "Tigre", who led at the end of last year the military campaign in the locality of Aleppo, the largest in northern Syria. Despite this army achievement, there is still a presence of ISIS in areas of the south and east of Deir Ezzor province. After this defeat, the extremists lose one of their most important bastions in Syria with the population of Raqa.
