40 Years Later: Remains of German mountaineer Rudi Moder found

Almost 40 years after the disappearance of a German climber in the Rocky Mountain National Park in the American state of Colorado, his remains have been found. Although the comparison of the bones with dental impressions did not show a clear result, the judicial authorities of the Grand district officially closed the missing person case Rudolf "Rudi" Moder on Thursday.

In addition to the remains, skis, boots and other objects belonging to the then twenty-seven-year-old were discovered. Moder, who lived in Fort Collins near Denver, had left for Thunder Pass alone in mid-February 1983. When he didn't return after two to three days as planned, his roommate filed a missing persons report. In more than 30 centimeters of fresh snow, dozens of emergency personnel on skis and with search dogs tried for days to find the climber. In a cave they discovered Moder's sleeping bag and provisions.
