Interview with the mayor: Wackens flags are at half-mast

Mr Kunkel, what are you doing this weekend?

Good question. This is uncharted territory for all of us. We have never experienced before, that we are planning on the first weekend in August nothing. So, if the weather is nice, we go maybe to the beach. And if it is not so good, then my wife and I are meeting with friends in the "Wacken Café". Which are otherwise at the Festival, and this year they will be free. But a big Party or so, it will not give.

What do you usually do during the Festivals?

we are four days on the site, the inhabitants of Wacken always have free admission. I'm doing a bit earlier in the evening, and then we look, for example, what is going on in the swimming pool. On Wednesdays there are in the evening also always a concert in the Church, as we go also. This is sometimes quite loud, but always good.

you Are now also a Metal Fan? Or were you in the first place?

No, I was not. But I think some of the groups really well now, Subway to Sally, Sabaton, or Nightwish, for example. We are looking for us to advance out and look at the. Other Bands are really just noise. Well, Yes, and the many walks in the village: get through the Festival access to this music and go each year, targeted to groups that you want to see. And on the small stages, you can always discover something New.

you are Looking at "Wacken World Wide", the virtual Festival, which this year runs online?

No, me in front of the computer, and something to listen to, I'll do it. Because we prefer to wait to next year and hope that all will come back.

do you Believe that in a year everything goes back to normal?

I'm afraid not. I think that there will be limitations, maybe also of the number of participants here. A normal Festival, I can't imagine. We have the land, in order to allow the tents with larger intervals. But how are you supposed to do with the concerts? Yes you can spray the bad marks on the floor or flap band clamp or the court furnish it with chairs. The skin is not.

And if in this year, in spite of all the warnings Fans to Wacken come, what do you do then?

We know of some who have booked, as always, an apartment. The are maybe 200 people that may like to come. But we have set ourselves with the clerk's office, the police and the organizers got together and decided that we will not tolerate wild camping and parties. We have placed the fences, there will be patrols, and the police will intervene if there popping up.

the spectacle is Missing the Wackenern? Or some are also glad that this year is finally quiet?

I've heard of a woman who is happy, that it fails. All other the Festival, the bustle, the hustle and bustle and the many nationalities meet here in us are missing. Some have hoisted their Wacken-flags this year at half-mast. We will survive, but it really is a shame.
