Beautiful in your sleep?: These night creams are a nightmare

You should sleep seven to eight hours a night to allow your skin to recover. Anyone who no longer believes in the regenerative power of their own body likes to use a night cream. At least that can't do any harm, unless you take one of the test losers, as Öko-Test finds out.

Everyone wants to grow old, but when it comes to looking old, the rush is limited. It doesn't matter whether it's anti-aging creams or anti-wrinkle creams, the shelves for facial care are well stocked and the demand is great. Especially if you want it to work while you're sleeping. Which brings us to night creams.

Many people want to help their skin regenerate and apply a night cream to their face in the evening. But are the products safe for the skin and do they actually do anything? Öko-Test examined 36 night creams from drugstores, (organic) supermarkets, pharmacies and discounters. 16 of them are certified natural cosmetics.

First, the description of the products was searched for controversial ingredients - for example, questionable UV filters or environmentally harmful liquid plastic. The creams were then examined in the laboratory. Among other things, attention was paid to petroleum, mineral oil, fragrances and allergy-causing preservatives. Studies were also requested to verify the partially advertised anti-aging effect and the benefit against wrinkles. The testers also paid attention to the environmental friendliness of the packaging.

The loser of the test is Procter's "Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 Night Care".

Just as "insufficient" are the "L'Oreal Revitalift Filler Anti-Age Care Night" and the "Neutrogena Hydro Boost Night Cream" from Johnson

The two cheapest night creams, which are rated "very good" and both only cost 2.85 euros (per 50 milliliters), do it better. Namely the "Alverde Q10 Night Cream Organic Grapefruit Organic Sea Buckthorn" from dm and the "Cien Nature Organic Pomegranate Night Cream" from Lidl (Cosmolux). In terms of price, the "Lavera Re-Energizing Sleeping Cream Organic Grape" follows

Nevertheless, the testers come to the conclusion that a special night cream offers no advantages over a care cream without any promise of effectiveness. Corresponding studies by the manufacturers could not really convince them.
