Boris celebrates wedding: Big party, cheap dress: Carrie Johnson borrowed a dress for the wedding party – for 25 pounds

More than a year ago, Boris and Carrie Johnson, who was still called Symonds at the time, got married. But because of the ongoing pandemic, the big celebration had to be canceled and only 30 guests were allowed to come to the wedding in Westminster Cathedral. On July 30, 2022, the time had finally come, the Johnsons could catch up on the party and dance the night away at entrepreneur Anthony Bamford's Daylesford House estate near the village of Stow-on-the-Wold in the western English county of Gloucestershire.

Originally, the Johnsons wanted to celebrate at Checkers near Ellesborough in the English county of Buckinghamshire. The plans have come under criticism because the property is the British Prime Minister's official country residence and many Britons therefore believe it should not be used for private purposes.

Carrie Johnson's dress received special attention. The frugal Carrie borrowed designer Savannah Miller's backless evening dress from luxury clothing store Mywardrobehq.com for £25. The cost of the dress is around £3500. The dress, made from Italian silk, is "the ultimate in understated, effortless vintage Hollywood glamour," according to the distributor.

Borrowing a dress suits Carrie Johnson. She is a conservationist and senior advisor to the marine conservation organization Oceana. Carrie wore a borrowed dress to her wedding last year. At that time she borrowed a dress from the designer Christos Costarellos - also for a fraction of the purchase price. Shortly thereafter, the British department store chain Harrods announced that it wanted to work with the distributor.

Around 200 guests are said to have attended the celebration, including many politicians from the conservative party. Also there was Australian actress Holly Valance and her husband, Nick Candy, who drove to the party in a Rolls Royce.

The Daily Mail reports the couple opened the celebration by dancing to the song "Sweet Caroline," probably because Carrie is short for Caroline. A single demonstrator protested in front of the property's entrance, and the police later asked him not to block the road.
