Deep needling: Kim Kardashian has undergone a painful tummy tuck – it should be worth it

All you can do for beauty: US reality star Kim Kardashian is not afraid of pain when it comes to looking perfect. She underwent a beauty procedure that was anything but harmless. On Wednesday, the 41-year-old 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' actress shared a photo of her stomach after undergoing a body lift. "This is a game changer", "This is a turning point," writes Kim Kardashian under an Instagram story. On it you can see her crimson, but firm stomach.

"I used the Morpheus laser to tighten my stomach," she continues. It is her "favourite laser", but she also admitted that the treatment is painful but worth it. "Morpheus8" or "Deep Needling" is the name of the much sought-after method for skin tightening without surgery. Hollywood is said to be crazy about it. Not only Kim Kardashian but also Jennifer Lopez is said to be an advocate of needles. The method is mostly used on the face. Small needles are shot four millimeters into the skin. They are said to cause a "burn" deep in the skin and stimulate the layers of the skin to produce more collagen. This should lead to a long-term tightening effect.

"In order to make the treatment as pleasant as possible for the patient, a local anesthetic cream is applied to the area to be treated 50 minutes before the start of the treatment, which can take effect under foil occlusion. This intensifies the numbing effect again," says Dr. Barbara Franz , specialist in dermatology at the Austrian Society for Dermatology and Dermatosurgery, the "Elle" about the procedure.

The method is said to be recommended for cellulite and enlarged pores. Doctors fear few side effects with the method: "The skin is red for a day after the treatment and there may be occasional very small bleeding around the eyes because the skin around the eyes is very thin and sensitive," says the specialist. However, there are no other side effects to worry about. However, the method is not cheap. For a treatment on the face you have to reckon with upwards of 500 euros. If you want to carry out the procedure on other parts of the body, you have to spend a multiple of it.
