Disney is planning a series adaptation of "Eragon". This is reported by the industry service "Variety", citing unnamed sources. The series is based on the fantasy book series by Christopher Paolini (38), which is aimed at young readers. According to the report, the author should even act as a co-author. More details are not yet known as the project is said to be in an early stage.
The four-volume novel tells the story of 15-year-old Eragon, who grows up as an orphan in a farming family. One day he finds a blue stone that turns out to be a dragon egg. From now on, Eragon and the female dragon Saphira form a tight-knit team that fights against the renegade dragon rider Galbatorix.
Christopher Paolini self-published the first part of the saga, which is called "The Inheritance Cycle" in the US original, in 2002. In 2003, the publishing house Alfred A. Knopf struck. Four volumes were published by 2011, which have sold over 40 million copies worldwide.
In 2006, in the wake of the "Lord of the Rings" films, "Eragon" started in cinemas. The film adaptation of the first book in the series flopped, despite a strong cast of John Malkovich (68) and Jeremy Irons (73). Plans to film the other novels in the series were put on hold due to the failure.
