Susanna Reid was the youngest of three children and was born in Croydon in South London in 1970.

As an adolescent Susanna attended Croham Hurst School in Croydon, Croydon High School, and St Paul's Girl's School. There she displayed signs that she wanted to be an actress.
She was part of several stage productions, including Agatha Christie's Spider's Web in 1982 with Shirley Anne Field, and in The Price, Channel 4 1985 alongside Harriet Walter and Peter Markworth.
Her acting career didn't take off, so Susanna decided to study Philosophy and Politics at Bristol University. She was the editor of Epigram, a student newspaper.
