Britney Spears does what Britney Spears likes. Since the singer was able to throw off the shackles of guardianship, she has been enjoying her regained freedom to the fullest, celebrating life. But the way she does it doesn't seem to please her sons at all. Because as Britney's ex-husband Kevin Federline now said in a TV interview, they don't want to see their mother at the moment.
Federline was married to Spears for two years and they have two sons together: Sean Preston is now 16 and Jayden is 15. Federline won a bitter custody battle back then, and since then the boys have lived with him, now with his new wife and two stepsisters. They stay away from their mother even after the end of their guardianship, as Federline now tells, after almost a decade of silence. They hadn't seen her for months—at their own request. And this despite the fact that Spears has just bought a new house near the sons.
That Spears and the sons' relationship isn't pink isn't new. Again and again she wrote on her Instagram channel that her sons did not want her to show them there. And at Spears' wedding, she married her longtime partner Sam Asghari in June, her sons weren't there either. While the sons still love their mother, Federline says, they have a problem with how she presents herself on Instagram.
In the past few months, Spears has been very revealing on social media, posting naked pictures. It's tough for the boys, Federline said. He tries to explain to the sons that maybe it's just another way of expressing himself. "But that doesn't change the fact of what it does to them. It's tough," he added. He couldn't imagine how it must have felt for her to go to high school as a teenager and be confronted with it.
Federline has kept out of the public eye for years, shielding his children from the media hype. The fact that he's now part of an exclusive interview series currently being broadcast on ITV is making waves. Finally, in the interviews he speaks for the first time about the turbulent relationship between himself and Spears and his reality as her husband. He even claims that having Spears' guardianship saved his life.
Statements that Spears did not leave uncommented. In a post on Instagram, she recalled that the trauma and insults that come with fame and business affect not only herself, but her children as well. "I'm only human and I did my best," she wrote. "Other artists did much worse when their children were young."
