Pixar: emotion of the fans after the dismissal of two emblematic figures

At The Walt Disney Company, Buzz Lightyear has done some damage. After the disappointing results of its last film, spin-off of the Toy Story franchise, in 2022, the company decided to proceed with a wave of layoffs. A total of 75 positions have been cut, particularly within the Pixar animation studio. Among those thanked are Angus MacLane and Galyn Susman, explains The Huffington Post, which relays the specialized media Deadline and the Reuters agency.

These two people, involved in the Buzz Lightyear project, are two of the most important figures of the last two decades of Pixar films. So much so that this dismissal does not please fans of the animation studio.

At 48, Angus MacLane is absolutely everywhere. Since 1997 and his entry into Pixar Animation Studios, he has participated in many feature films that have met with great success, such as The Incredibles, Toy Story 2, Monsters and Co., Ratatouille, Cars, Nemo... The list is long.

In 2008, he directed the animation of Wall-E, then co-directed Finding Dory in 2016. After working on Toy Story 4, Coco or Saul, he wrote and directed his first animated feature film: Buzz l 'Flash. This will be his last project with Pixar.

Lightyear did not deserve to bomb this badly. Angus MacLane and Galyn Susman did so much good for not just this film, but Pixar in general. With how badly Disney handled the release, they were throw under the bus for reasons beyond their control. Wishing these two all the best. https://t.co/bSSXX7m5Ar pic.twitter.com/7mubuqVhUs

Galyn Susman, meanwhile, is equally important to Pixar, not least because she's known for saving the movie Toy Story 2. was located on the file system, including the animated film. "By bad luck, they find out that the backup files haven't worked for a month," reports The Independent.

It was therefore Galyn Susman, who was then working from home so that she could be with her newborn, who made it possible to find the missing files, the latter being on her computer.

The objective of these forced departures, the first since 2013, is to meet the expectations of Bob Iger, the boss, who wants to reduce costs by 5.5 billion dollars. The "cinema" and "television" entities will thus merge to become Dinsey Entertainment. And Pixar, for its part, is slowing down on production. In 2023, only one film is planned (Elementary), two others are for the following year (Elio, and Vice-versa 2).
