Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) is a son by profession and spends his life with wild parties. But then his father dies and leaves him his media empire. Britt befriends mechanic Kato (Jay Chou) and soon discovers that Kato is an excellent martial artist. Together they come up with a plan: as the Green Hornet, Britt wants to go on a criminal hunt with Kato. Soon they are opposed by underworld boss Benjamin Chudnofsky (Christoph Waltz), who wants to permanently eliminate the "green hornet".

The horse racing stable owner Peter Süssner is found shot dead in the Cologne suburb. Marie Brand (Mariele Millowitsch) and Jürgen Simmel (Hinnerk Schönemann) suspect the murderer in his milieu, especially since the dead man had clashed with illegal bookmakers. However, a new lead emerges when Dr. Engler (Thomas Heinze) recognizes Marek Kahlert (Sascha Alexander Gersak) on surveillance footage from the crime scene. Kahlert, who had just been released from prison, kidnapped a man many years ago and extorted ransom, only part of which was found.

Viola Meister (Anne-Catrin Märzke) brings her protesting father Konrad (Matthias Freihof) to the clinic. He would much rather go back to Pirna in Saxon Switzerland, where he works as a forester. But Konrad can no longer walk. Initial tingling and numbness has progressed to progressive neuropathy and paralysis. dr Roland Heilmann (Thomas Rühmann) sets out to investigate the causes, while Viola worries about her father.
