You love it or you hate it - the chances of tuning in are high in both cases: The game show "Wetten, dass...?!" has been attracting the German-speaking audience to the screens for decades. Actually, the big ZDF evening show had already retired.

But after a special edition last year, for which veteran Thomas Gottschalk again moderated, the audience wanted more. ZDF is now complying with the request.

And Gottschalk is back as a moderator. As a guest on his colleague Johannes B. Kerner's talk show "Best Filling", he also talked about how the broadcaster convinced him to appear in front of the cameras again.

"The head of entertainment at ZDF, who takes care of these topics, called the right names. He said: 'Imagine, in the end Queen sings 'We Are The Champions' - we're right! And even if Paul McCartney pushed in at 80.' So real star guests of international stature, also older semesters, Gottschalk would like to see them.

He doesn't think much of German stars and starlets - at least of the younger ones. Apparently, the following applies to the showmaster: If he doesn't know himself, he doesn't consider him worthy of "Wetten, dass ...?!".

He put it similarly in an interview with Kerner: "We are not right with Mark Forster or with Lena Meyer-Landrut, I claim. Nothing against these deserving artists, but it is actually important to me that we show a 'size' that don't need to be explained to me."

Over the past few years, it has repeatedly been pointed out that there are actually no longer any major shows on German television that would be a suitable platform for appearances by major international stars. Someone like Gottschalk could indeed probably get bigger names on board again.

However, "Wetten, dass ...?!" always from the right mix of guests. Even German starlets always found their place on the famous couch. And Mark Forster would have deserved an invitation there as well as Lena – Paul McCartney would certainly take a seat next to both of them without reservation. But now, one might assume, both German artists probably don't feel like appearing on the show anymore.

The next "Wetten, dass ...?!" episode is scheduled for November 19th. be broadcast.
