‘Pot smoker’ outside Port Authority had loaded gun: cops

A 30-year-old man suspected of smoking pot outside the Port Authority Bus Terminal was questioned by cops — who then discovered he was carrying a loaded pistol and more than 100 rounds of ammunition, including hollow-point bullets, according to Port Authority police.

Some of the bullets were hidden in tubes of toothpaste, authorities said.

PA cops spotted Amos Stowers acting suspiciously at Dyer Avenue and West 41st Street around 4:30 p.m. Monday, authorities said.

While he was being questioned, Stowers told police, “I have a gun in my bag. Be careful – it has no safety,” law enforcement sources said.

Cops found a Kel-Tec 9-mm pistol loaded with nine bullets, a switchblade knife, a folding knife, and another 106 rounds of ammunition. Seventeen of the bullets were hollow-point.

Some of the ammunition had been stashed in toothpaste in his backpack, police said. Stowers was arrested slapped with several charges, including second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He insisted to police that he didn’t intend to harm anyone other than himself.

“I came to New York to kill myself. … I tried to do it last night, but I could not,” Stowers said, according to sources.
