Relax, Gladiators, 'Scandal' takes two-week break and returns March 9

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Where's "Scandal" this week? Relax, Gladiators, the show is taking a two-week break, and will return with a new episode on Thursday, March 9.

A rerun of the ABC hit series airs on Thursday, Feb. 23. "Scandal" will be pre-empted on Thursday, March 2, for ABC's "When We Rise," an eight-hour miniseries about the history of the gay rights movement starring Guy Pearce, Whoopi Goldberg and Mary-Louise Parker.

"When We Rise" premieres at 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, with its three remaining two-hour episodes airing Wednesday-Friday, March 1-3.

"Scandal" normally airs at 9 p.m. Thursdays on WEWS Channel 5.

The two-week hiatus comes when fans are dying to find out if Cyrus (Jeff Perry) - the disgraced president-elect -- can redeem himself, and if the Gladiators - led by Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) - can find out who really killed Frankie Vargas (Ricardo Chavira).

The current season of "Scandal" kicked off a few weeks ago with the shocking death of President-Elect Vargas, who was shot while making his acceptance speech Supertotobet on election night. Olivia and others suspected that Frankie's vice president, Cyrus Beene, engineered the assassination.

Olivia vowed to find out the truth so that her candidate, Mellie Grant, could take her rightful place in the Oval Office.

President Grant announced that Cyrus was president-elect. Cyrus was flying high with his raging ego unchecked, until Olivia's crew uncovered a video of a heated argument between Cyrus and Frankie, in which Frankie vows to put Cyrus in jail.

Then Tom, Cyrus' former lover and psychopathic killer, resurfaced in Cyrus' life. Flashbacks revealed that during the campaign, Cyrus strongly hinted to Tom that life would be grand if Frankie were out of the picture (although Cyrus did later try to call Tom off the job).

Angry and hurt because his relationship with Cyrus was over, Tom told the authorities that he and Cyrus colluded to kill Frankie. Cyrus, now pathetic and friendless, tried to adjust to life in prison. He stole a guard's keys and freed a murderer in a nearby cell. As the murderer choked Tom, Tom confessed that he didn't kill Frankie and fingered Cyrus out of spite. Cyrus realized that Tom's admission would get both of them out of prison.

Who did kill Frankie Vargas? Will Cyrus regain the presidency and make Mellie his vice president? And - here's the big question - will Olivia and Fitz ever reunite? Hopefully, we'll get answers when "Scandal" returns on March 9.
