Sagamore Pendry hotel touts Baltimore hires as opening nears

The Sagamore Pendry Baltimore said it has hired more than 150 people to work at the new Fells Point hotel, of whom three-quarters live in the city.

The hotel promoted the job figures as it prepares to open in the historic Recreation Pier building this month.

The luxury hotel is backed by real estate companies owned by Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank and his brother, Scott. It is managed by California-based Montage Hotels & Resorts under the Pendry brand.

About 90 percent of the 153 hires hail from the Baltimore area and about 75 percent are city residents, according to representatives of Kevin Plank's Sagamore Development. They said hiring is continuing.

Sagamore is also steering plans for redevelopment in Port Covington. There, the firm pledged to hire at least 30 percent of infrastructure construction workers from Baltimore, making the commitment as part of the negotiations for more than a half-billion dollars in public financing for roads, sewers and other infrastructure.

A job fair will be held Thursday and Saturday afternoons in South Baltimore for careers in engineering, food and beverage and housekeeping at a luxury hotel opening next year in Fells Point.
