The soldiers in the Ukrainian army now receive uniforms specially tailored to them. As Defense Minister Oleksiy Resnikov announced on Facebook in the late afternoon, the first deliveries of uniforms and corresponding underwear had already been issued to several brigades for testing. After a certain "trial period" changes could still be made. Boots with raised heels for female soldiers should also be introduced from January, as well as special protective vests. Uniforms for pregnant soldiers should also find their way into the units.
Reznikov put the number of female soldiers in the ranks of the Ukrainian armed forces at 41,000. Almost 19,000 other women are employed as civilian employees in the army. "About 5,000 women are directly involved in combat operations," Reznikov wrote. They therefore serve in various formations, from armored units to infantry and artillery.
Meanwhile, Russian invasion forces and Ukrainian defenders continued fighting around the frontline town of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine. The general staff in Kyiv said in the evening that several advances by Russian units had been repelled. The city of Bakhmut is considered the so-called cornerstone of the front in eastern Ukraine. A breakthrough at this point would allow Russian troops to penetrate deep behind the Ukrainian lines. The city has since been expanded into a fortress by the defenders.
Ukrainian artillery hit a concentration of Russian troops in the village of Polovinkino in the Luhansk region in the east of the country. Around 150 soldiers were killed or wounded, it said. A similar artillery attack on Russian troops in the Kherson region in southern Ukraine killed around 50 soldiers and wounded another 100, the general staff in Kyiv said. The information could not be independently verified.
