85 fatalities since the beginning of the year: Israel's army kills six Palestinians in action

Another six Palestinians die in an Israeli army operation. In the West Bank, the troops are taking action against a suspected assassin who is said to be among the victims. Since the beginning of the year, 85 people have already been killed on both sides.

At least six Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli military operation in the northern West Bank city of Jenin. The Palestinian Ministry of Health said all suffered fatal gunshot wounds. 26 other Palestinians were also injured. Three people were in mortal danger, including two 16-year-old teenagers. The dead were said to be between 22 and 49 years old.

According to the army, the Palestinian suspected of being responsible for the deadly attack on two Israeli brothers in Huwara in late February was among the victims. The security forces "eliminated the heinous terrorist," said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to his office. "As I have always said: whoever harms us will pay the price."

The situation in Israel and the Palestinian territories has been very tense for a long time. Since the beginning of the year, 13 Israelis and one Ukrainian have been killed in Palestinian attacks. In the same period, 71 Palestinians lost their lives - they were killed, for example, in confrontations with the Israeli army or in their own attacks.

Israel conquered the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 1967. More than 600,000 Israeli settlers live there today. The Palestinians claim the territories for their own state.
