The United States has threatened new sanctions against the construction of the Pipeline Nord Stream-2. The American Secretary of state Mike Pompeo announced on Wednesday, a sanction of the law from the year 2017 will be extended to the Pipeline project. Investments or other activities with a view to Nord Stream 2 could be with American penal measures. "This is a clear warning to businesses," said Pompeo. "Withdraw now, or risk the consequences."
The United States had already tried in the past to prevent the completion of Nord Stream 2 with sanctions against the operator of pipelay vessels. The construction of the Pipeline had to be interrupted because of it.
the North Stream 2 is intended to transport Gas from Russia to Germany and particularly in Eastern Europe controversial. Also, the United States, the project is a thorn in the eye. The American government argues, Europe will embark in an energy-dependence on Russia.
