Lesbian-and-Gay-Union: I'm on cloud nine

Mr. Vogt, the structure and bylaws Commission of the CDU has decided this Wednesday that the lesbian and Gay Union (LSU) is to be recognized as a "special organization". Your group is officially a "part of the CDU".

Tim Niendorf

editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine week.

F. A. Z.

I'm on cloud nine. This is a bit like the 30. June 2017, as the Bundestag has decided that marriage for same-sex couples to allow. That was a Moment in time that you couldn't believe. I am aware: This is not yet the final decision. The power of the party Congress in December. There was only one dissenting vote, let me the good things.

Why this Status is so important?

It is associated with certain Rights. To request rights to the Congress, and participation rights in bodies. We need to attach the concern for LSBTIQ*-people where they belong. Namely, in the heart of the party. Directly and not indirectly. We can do this then so even.

The CDU has special organizations such as the student RCDS, and associations such as the Young Union. You wouldn't have wanted rather to be as an Association recognised?

associations have more obligations than special organizations. We do not have the size and the substructure to provide everything that would be required in that area. The Status of a special organization for us to time perfectly and exactly right. That's also what I was hoping for.

How many members do you have actually?

there are Now over 700. The now of the structure and bylaws Commission of the CDU is called the size of 2000 members of the special organizations, we do not reach, but there's explicitly a vote was taken on the LSU as a special organization, this is a recommendation, not more crucial.

Only 15 percent of the LSU members are female.

Yes, more or less.

The not-rich.

not In the slightest! We are working on it. This is a Problem of many groups in most of the parties.

you once said that the Millennium change around LSU members were still regarded as "dirty children".

That's right! (laughs)

At the party Congress in 2003, in Leipzig, they only had a Foyer, Stand on the very edge right next to the toilets. As it has now done so but something.

Yes, enormously! It has lasted well. It was a constant process and not a sudden change of heart. A drastic experience, there were then but but. In the past year, namely, at the Congress, was again in Leipzig. It is the same exhibition hall. And this time we were somewhere else entirely. Right at the beginning, in the middle, right next to the Saxon CDU. And that was a great feeling. Everyone came past us, we had many visitors at the Stand. The has already shown how the party has changed. Not everyone who came to see us was, in our view. But the discussions were good. And we are now seen as a serious person. The recognition we have earned. Therefore, at this point, my great thanks to all the Board members and all who have ever worked in a function with us and also to all the members that are on site and something for us to do. The work has paid off.
