Unclear: SPD-Boss for now, however, against compulsory service

SPD-Head of Saskia esque has spoken out now, but clearly against a mandatory year for young people in the service of the General public. The voluntary social year (FSJ) is very popular, there is little willingness to Fund more places. "This is why the debate on the obligation year is wrong. In addition, it is not my people,“ wrote esque on Tuesday on Twitter. She added: "I think it is better to motivate rather than force."

The CDU party chair and defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer had proposed a General compulsory service, either in the military or in the civilian sector.

On Monday, the SPD had declared-Boss on a visit to Calw, in Baden-Württemberg: "in Principle, I would welcome it very much if the legislators on the Budget and the government would go to all those who want to make a social year of service, a place to offer." Currently, there are more applicants for the voluntary social year than places. She added: "If we are so that we can all offer a place, then we can talk about a mandatory year." On Tuesday esque admitted that she was "unclear".

defence Minister Kramp-Karrenbauer (CDU) had announced on the weekend a new voluntary service in the Bundeswehr. In the process, young people should be in their home for a six-month basic military training, and used thereafter for six months close to home reserve services. The new service is not a substitute for the voluntary military service, but an alternative addition to offer, the Minister said. He will be introduced as of 2021, under the title of "Your year for Germany".
