A complaint was filed against the minister: Lauterbach is said to have violated the obligation to isolate

At the beginning of August, Federal Minister of Health Lauterbach fell ill with Corona - and had to isolate himself. After six days he attends a cabinet meeting again. The question of whether he was still symptomatic at this point is now occupying the Berlin police. Two complaints have been lodged against the minister.

Because he is said to have violated the obligation to isolate during his corona infection, former Berlin MP Marcel Luthe has filed a complaint against Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach. He accuses the SPD politician of ending his isolation early, even though he was still symptomatic. In contrast to the recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute, according to the Berlin Infection Protection Ordinance, premature termination of the ten-day isolation requirement is only permitted if the infected person has been symptom-free for at least 48 hours.

However, Lauterbach had already taken part in a cabinet meeting again, although he said he did not feel quite fit yet. In an interview with ARD on August 9, he said he was negative again, "the PCR test is also well over 30, so I'm no longer considered contagious." On Twitter, however, he wrote, among other things, the sentence: "Hope the recovery will be complete soon." For Luthe, this is an indication that the minister apparently still had symptoms.

"The principle of equal treatment requires the case to be publicly clarified and Mr. Lauterbach to be held accountable," argues Luthe. Otherwise, all other citizens would also have to be left alone. The Ministry of Health rejected the allegations in a statement. "The minister was symptom-free for 48 hours before he visited the cabinet on Wednesday," said the newspaper "Welt".

Luthe told the "Berliner Zeitung" that there were "dozens of people who were accused of similar violations and who should be punished for it". He is concerned with "equal treatment of citizens and the Minister of Health". The Berlin AfD politician Eva-Marie Doerfler also shared this view and also filed a complaint against Lauterbach. "A man who bullies an entire country with confused, baseless and unspeakable regulations, but does not comply with them himself, is intolerable as a minister."

The Ministry of Health announced on August 4 that Lauterbach had tested positive for the corona virus and that he had gone into domestic isolation. It was pointed out that the 59-year-old was vaccinated four times. The day after the announcement, Lauterbach wrote on Twitter that the symptoms were "still mild" so far. To avoid complications, he had also taken the Covid drug Paxlovid.
