Affair about secret documents: FBI searches for Biden files on university campus

The document affair surrounding Joe Biden is expanding. After the discovery of confidential documents in the offices of the US President, sensitive documents are also discovered in the Democrat's house. Now FBI investigators are investigating at the University of Delaware.

In the affair surrounding the discovery of secret government documents, the FBI searched the University of Delaware for secret documents belonging to US President Biden. This was reported by the broadcaster CNN, citing people close to the investigation. It is said to have been two searches that took place in agreement with Biden's lawyers. Documents were secured in two different places, but none of them were marked secret, it said. The FBI is examining the files.

In the past few weeks, confidential documents from earlier years in Biden's government have repeatedly appeared in Biden's private rooms - in offices in Washington and his house in Wilmington, also in the garage there. In early February, however, no other secret documents were found during a search of Biden's weekend home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

For the president, the revelations are politically very sensitive: It is not allowed to store confidential government documents privately after leaving office. The National Archives are responsible for this in the USA. Biden was Vice President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017.

Secret documents had also been found in the past with former President Donald Trump and his Vice President Mike Pence. Special investigators were therefore deployed against Trump and Biden. In Trump's case, according to media reports, investigators assume that he could have committed a criminal offense in connection with the documents.

Biden and the White House have been heavily criticized for their information policy in this case. The public only found out about some of the finds when the media reported on them. Biden had previously harshly criticized his Republican predecessor Donald Trump for taking secret documents home with him.

The first tranche of confidential documents at Biden had already been discovered on November 2 – shortly before the important congressional elections. The White House emphasizes that Biden's lawyers immediately informed the National Archives. However, the public only found out about it in January when the broadcaster CBS reported about it.
