The former head of the Russian space agency Roskosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said he was slightly injured by Ukrainian artillery fire while celebrating in Donetsk. "I'm injured, a three by four millimeter shrapnel penetrated above my right shoulder blade," Rogozin wrote on his Telegram channel. So he needs an operation.
According to media reports, the politician known for his imperialist stance was celebrating his birthday when the shells fell in a bar in the Russian-occupied city of Donetsk. He himself claims the incident happened at a "work meeting" in a hotel restaurant. In addition to the shoulder injury, Rogozin also got splinters in his face and buttocks.
The attack resulted in several deaths and injuries, "it was carried out with high-precision ammunition, which was probably fired from a truck with a French Caesar artillery system," said the responsible Russian investigative committee. Television images showed overturned tables in a hall with damaged windows and walls.
Rogozin, whose political beginnings lie in the extreme right-wing party "Rodina" ("Homeland") and who was photographed by the media giving the Hitler salute during the nationalist "Russian March", later made a career under Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin - first as ambassador to NATO in Brussels, then as deputy head of government and finally as head of the space agency Roskosmos.
After his replacement in July 2022, there was speculation that Putin would appoint him governor-general of the conquered Ukrainian territories. So far, however, such a structure does not exist, probably also because of the military defeats that Russia has had to accept in its war of aggression in Ukraine in recent months. Rogozin, meanwhile, has formed a group of volunteer military advisers called the "Tsar Wolves." He posed several times when handing over equipment to soldiers at the front.
