"Battle of Civilizations": Orban calls for conservative resistance

In Dallas, Texas, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban prides himself on being a freedom fighter for Western Europe's Christian values. The enemy? The "Globalist Left". The allies? The conservatives around Donald Trump in the USA.

The CPAC conferences are among the most important conservative events in the USA. Whoever is invited here has something to say that is on line. At the current edition in Dallas, Texas, an unusual guest opens the lectures: Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban strides to the lectern, on the stage construction yells "AWAKE NOT WOKE" at those present; awake, not woke.

Orban presents himself as an ally, seeks to close ranks with those present and ex-President Donald Trump. Thank you for supporting him. In his remarks, the prime minister delved into the idea of a supposed culture war that would decide the occident and its imminent downfall. He, Hungary and the US conservatives want to prevent that against a globalist left. Transcript of an insane speech to a partially intoxicated Texas audience.

The Hungarian strikes the right note at the beginning. Make yourself important in a relaxed tone, joke a little, insult the press, name the right buzzwords. Orban talks about the fact that his country in the heart of Europe has been fighting for Christianity for 500 years, that he himself is an "old-fashioned freedom fighter" and the longest serving prime minister in Europe, but also a father of five children and five grandchildren. And then, most importantly, "I am the leader of a country under siege by progressive liberals, day after day."

To absolve himself and those present, he calls a "zero tolerance principle against racists and anti-Semitism" introduced in Hungary, then explains that Christians can't be racist at all because their faith forbids them to be. Background: Orban had previously been criticized for right-wing statements during a performance in Romania. Europeans should avoid "mixing" with non-Europeans, he had said. "We don't want to become peoples with mixed races," because countries where this happens are "no longer nations." One of his longest-serving advisors, Zsuzsa Hegedüs, therefore gave up. In her resignation, she was outraged by the "openly racist" and "pure Nazi" speech that Joseph Goebbels would have enjoyed.

In Dallas, Orban does not go as far as in Romania, but he poses as a conservative resistance fighter against a supposed liberal world conspiracy and progressive hegemony; Leader of one last little Christian bastion in the heart of the EU. The colonialists have risen again and allied themselves with the liberals, he explains, which is the enemy. The current US government is putting Europe and Brussels "under ideological pressure". Former US President Barack Obama even tried to change the Hungarian constitution, but his government refused. "That's why (the Democrats) hate us like they hate you."

Orban's lecture was announced under the title "How We Fight". Therefore, the prime minister explains to those present how the conservatives should best defend themselves: simply don't talk to the liberals, but do your own thing, otherwise it won't work. "This is a culture war," he says, adding that the liberals have "Marxist plans." The antidote? "We have to bring our churches, families and institutions back to life," he warns. Hungary is a "David nation against woke globalists". The basis are common Christian values. "The political left knows no borders," he says. It wants to separate western civilizations from their Christian roots.

Orban talks about what his policies as prime minister achieved, such as "zero illegal immigration" because Hungary built a wall. Migration is the "decisive and final struggle for the future," the most important thing that Hungary can bequeath to its children and grandchildren. In addition, Hungary has built a "wall of law" around these children to protect them from gender ideology, there is no sex education in school without parental consent. State-regulated education is "an old communist trick".

When the Hungarian head of government reads an excerpt from the Hungarian constitution about the family, which defines it as the bond between a man and a woman, the audience cheers and tears from their seats. Orban boasts that the number of marriages has doubled in the past ten years, and that of abortions has halved. The Prime Minister is convinced that if the family goes under, the West will go under.

"Fewer drag queens, more Chuck Norris," is how he sums up his country's security policy, and goes so far as to claim that the Hungarian capital, Budapest, is "one of the few major European cities" where it's safe to walk the streets at night. He also proudly tells of a slim state, low taxes and exemption from taxes for women with many children. "Well, if you are not married yet, you should find a Hungarian wife immediately."

"The West is at war with itself," says Orban. "But the globalists can go to hell, I went to Texas!" he yells, tearing the audience from their seats again. "I'm here so that we can get together," he also appeals, because there will be presidential elections in the USA and EU parliamentary elections in Brussels in 2024. The conservatives in the US and Hungary would have to accept this fight and recapture the institutions in Washington and Brussels. These are the "Battle for Western Civilizations". "We have to coordinate our troop movements," warns Orban.

After about 35 minutes, the bizarre speech is over. The Hungarian Prime Minister waves to the audience, shakes a few hands, takes his printed speech, and walks off the stage. This is how CPAC will continue through Saturday night, with many conservative speakers. The highlight is the appearance of former President Donald Trump.
